Breast Lift (Mastopexy)

A breast lift is a plastic surgical procedure that aims to restore more elevated breast profile by removing excess skin and repositioning the nipple-areola complex. Breast drooping, known as ptosis, is a natural result of ageing, pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, and gravity. For many women it affects both confidence and how clothing fits, without being easily addressed through anything other than surgery.

Mr. Ibrahim assesses each patient's degree of ptosis carefully, recommending the technique that achieves the most natural-looking result with the most appropriate scar burden. A breast lift can also be combined with implants for patients who want both lifting and increased volume.

What the Breast Lift procedure involves

Mr Ibrahim will classify the severity of drooping and assess skin quality, breast volume, and nipple position before recommending the most appropriate technique. Options range from a minimal periareolar (donut) lift for mild ptosis to a full anchor (inverted-T) lift for more significant drooping. The nipple-areola complex is repositioned to a higher, more youthful position while maintaining its blood supply. Excess skin is removed and the breast tissue reshaped. Surgery takes two to three hours under general anaesthetic.

Your Recovery

Swelling, bruising, and discomfort are expected in the first week. A supportive bra is worn for four to six weeks. Desk work is usually possible within one to two weeks, with strenuous activity avoided for four to six weeks. Breasts continue to settle over three to six months, and scars — which are permanent — fade over twelve to eighteen months.

Risks & Complications of Breast Lift Surgery

As with any surgery, breast lift surgery carries risks. Mr Ibrahim discusses these thoroughly at consultation so you can make a fully informed decision. Risks include:

  • Infection, bleeding, or haematoma

  • Changes in nipple or breast sensation

  • Partial or complete loss of nipple-areola complex — rare

  • Asymmetry in breast shape or nipple position

  • Wound healing problems

  • Hypertrophic or keloid scarring

  • Loss of lift over time with ageing or weight change

  • Reduced ability to breastfeed

  • Need for revision surgery

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long do results last?

Results are long-lasting but not permanent. Maintaining a stable weight and wearing supportive bras helps prolong the outcome.

  • Should I wait until after having children?

Pregnancy can alter results, so many surgeons recommend waiting until your family is complete if possible.

  • Can a breast lift be combined with implants?

Yes. Augmentation-mastopexy addresses both position and volume in the same procedure. Mr Ibrahim will discuss whether this is appropriate for your anatomy.
